Appcharge Names Payments Veteran Ronen Morecki as COO

Appcharge, a direct-to-consumer payments platform built for mobile game publishers, said Wednesday it has hired Ronen Morecki as Chief Operating Officer. Morecki arrives from monday.com, where he served as Vice President of Payments, and will now oversee Appcharge's payments strategy and day-to-day operations as the company pushes deeper into the global gaming market.

A Career Built on Both Sides of the Ledger

Morecki's appointment brings more than two decades of experience spanning both ends of the payments industry. On the provider side, he co-founded ZooZ, a payments technology company later acquired by PayU, where he went on to serve as Chief Technology Officer. That vantage point gave him a close view of how payment infrastructure is built and scaled for merchants across different markets and regulatory environments.

On the merchant side, Morecki spent years at monday.com leading payments, pricing and packaging, billing, and subscription lifecycle management. He is also credited with steering the company's pricing strategy toward models suited to the AI era, a shift that reflects broader changes in how SaaS businesses structure recurring revenue as product offerings grow more complex.

Why Merchant of Record Matters for Game Publishers

Appcharge positions itself as a Merchant of Record platform, a model that goes beyond simple payment routing. Rather than just directing a transaction to the right processor, a Merchant of Record assumes legal and financial responsibility for the sale itself, handling tax collection, fraud prevention, chargebacks, and regulatory compliance across jurisdictions. For mobile game publishers operating in dozens of countries simultaneously, this distinction matters enormously: it removes the burden of managing a patchwork of local tax codes, currency conversions, and acquiring banks.

Morecki framed this shift as a natural evolution in the payments industry. According to him, orchestration platforms already solved the technical challenge of routing transactions efficiently. The next step, in his view, is absorbing the financial and compliance complexity that sits behind every transaction, while still keeping costs and performance optimized for each individual merchant.

What It Means for Appcharge's Trajectory

Appcharge says its model has already been validated at scale, with publishers processing more than a billion dollars annually through its platform. Bringing in an executive with Morecki's background, someone who has built payments infrastructure from the provider side and managed its practical demands from the merchant side, signals an intent to deepen that infrastructure rather than simply expand its customer list.

The mobile gaming sector has particular reasons to care about this kind of consolidation. Game publishers often rely on in-app purchases and microtransactions across many regions, which exposes them to fraud risk, inconsistent regulatory treatment, and fragmented acquiring relationships. A Merchant of Record platform that can absorb these burdens gives publishers more predictable margins and fewer operational headaches, at the cost of ceding some direct control over the transaction chain.

Morecki's own comments suggest his priority will be reinforcing that infrastructure so it can extend beyond gaming to other categories of consumer applications facing similar payments complexity.
